Electricity contract for an EV in Finland 2026 — best choice with night charging and spot

An EV charges 2 000–4 000 kWh/year. Spot electricity + night charging saves 30–50 % on charging costs. See the cheapest spot contracts for EV owners.

Electric vehicles are the strongest single argument for choosing spot electricity. An EV consumes 2 000–4 000 kWh/year for charging — and almost all of it can be shifted to cheap night hours. Combined with a spot contract, EV owners typically pay 4–6 c/kWh for their charging vs 10–14 c/kWh on a fixed contract.

Frequently asked questions

How much does an EV consume per year?
A typical EV consumes 150–200 Wh/km. At 15 000 km/year that’s 2 250–3 000 kWh — one third to half of a typical household’s annual consumption.
Do I need a special charging installation?
Yes, ideally. A domestic 3.6 kW socket works but takes 12–16 hours for a full charge. A dedicated 11 kW wall charger cuts this to 4–6 hours — perfectly fitting the cheap night hours (01–06).
Is charging cheaper than gasoline?
Dramatically. Home charging at spot night rates costs about 1–2 €/100 km. Gasoline at 1.90 €/l costs 12–15 €/100 km. Over 15 000 km/year that’s 1 500–2 000 € savings.
